Learn how to crochet a snowflake with my step-by-step pattern and video tutorial. These festive motifs are really versatile and perfect for your Christmas table decorations, present toppers or just as a pretty decoration on your tree.
This pattern looks created in different yarns whether you want to use a sparkly DK, chunky or aran. Have a play and get creative! Simply alter the size of your hook, and check the belly band on the yarn for the recommended hook size. Personally, I think they look great in a sparkly DK!

- When working round 3 of your snowflake, the final slip stitch will act as your join.

Terms & Abbreviations
- Stitch(s): st(s)
- Slip Stitch(s): ss(s): Insert hook, yarn over, pull through stitch and loop on hook.
- Chain(s): ch(s): Yarn over, pull through loop on the hook.
- Double Crochet(s): dc(s): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.
- Treble Crochet(s): tr(s): Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

FREE Pattern: Crochet Snowflake
- Ch 6, insert hook into first chain and slip stitch to form a circle.
- Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first tr here and throughout), tr in circle, [ch 2, 2 tr in circle] 5 times, ch 2, ss into third ch of beg ch-3. <6 clusters of 2 tr each>
- Round 2: Ch 3, work (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) into each ch-2 sp around omitting last treble in last sp and ss to beg ch-3. <12 tr, 6 ch-2 sps>
- Round 3: *Ch 3, work 3 tr into next ch-2 sp, ch 3, work ss into sp between next 2 clusters of trs (this is in the space where you did not ch 2 in the previous round); repeat from * around. Your final ss of the round will act as your join. <6 clusters of 3 tr each>
- Round 4: *Work 3 dc in next ch-3 space, (next sts will be worked into the top of the three tr sts) ss in first tr, ch 3, (ss, ch 4, ss) in second tr, ch 3, ss in third tr, work 3 dc in next ch-3 sp; repeat from * around, ss in first dc, ch 1 and cut yarn leaving a tail to use as an attachment or sew in if not needed.
- Sew in ends.
- I recommend blocking your snowflake pulling the tips of your snowflake outwards to create more definition.
