Learn how to crochet corner to corner with my free step-by-step pattern and video tutorial. Of all the crochet stitches, as a beginner, the corner to corner (c2c) can look the most daunting, but it’s really not as hard as it looks. However, if you’re a beginner, you may want to start with a swatch before taking on a C2C pattern.
What is C2C Crochet?
C2C is a technique where you work your project diagonally, increasing row by row from one corner until you reach the width and height you want. Then you begin decreasing back down to finish at the opposite corner.
Each ‘tile’ in C2C crochet is made of a small block of stitches—usually 3 chains and 3 double crochets (UK trebles). These blocks are stacked like little staircases, giving C2C its distinct diagonal look.
Project Use Ideas
- Blankets
- Shawls
- Garments
- Cushions
- Pixel-style animal portraits or alphabet squares
- Yarn: You can use any weight yarn but if you are a beginner, I’d advise using a DK or aran weight yarn
- Hook: Check the yarn band for the recommended hook size.
- Scissors
- Darning Needle

Yarn Over Podcast
Have you discovered our Yarn Over Podcast? Jess from Make and Do Crew was the guest of a fantastic episode, talking about all things Corner to Corner. Jess loves the flexibility of working with shapes, whether that’s in garment form or a 2D design. She speaks passionately about taking an object and studying it to transform it into a 2D design that is then crocheted using the C2C method. You can listen to the podcast here or learn more about Jess here.
