The By The Sea Blanket is a quick and easy beginner friendly blanket. Whether you want to make a baby blanket or alternatively modify this blanket to make it bigger. This beginner friendly pattern is made up from just UK treble crochets, slips stitches and chains. You can also find the assisting video tutorials further down the post. Also in this blog I’ll also provide some colour inspiration and share all the pattern notes you’ll need before getting started.

Colour Choices
With this blanket featuring a bold block stripe, it means you can get creative with colour and experiment with different yarn colour palettes to suit your mood or to suit the recipient if you are gifting the blanket. Whether you want to go for bold brights or alternately some light pastels, the choices are endless! Pattern Notes
- Difficulty: Beginner
- This blanket was designed to use 4 balls of Stylecraft special chunky, making it the perfect 4 ball project!
- Gauge: 10cm x 10cm = 10 stitches x 6 rows
- Completed Size: 67.5 cm (H) x 85 cm (W) approx
- This pattern in UK terms but switchable to US terms below.
Convert Pattern Terms
Here you can quickly switch between UK and US crochet terms. This will make following the pattern easier as all terms will be converted to your preferred version.
Terms & Abbreviations
- Chain Space (ch-sp)
- Slip Stitch (ss): Insert hook into space, yarn over and pull through stitch and loop on hook
- Chain (ch): Yarn over, pull through one loop on hook.
- Treble crochet(tr): Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

- Using Colour A
- Foundation: Ch 70 + 3 for turning.
- Row 1: Tr in 4th ch from hook and each ch to end, then turn. (70 sts including turning ch here and throughout)
- Row 2-12: Ch3 (counts as a tr here and throughout), tr in each st to end, then turn. (70 sts)
- Fasten off Colour A and then attach Colour B
- Row 13-24: Ch3, tr in each st to end, then turn. (70 sts)
- Fasten off Colour B and then attach Colour C
- Row 25-36: Ch3, tr in first st and each st to end, then turn. (70 sts)
- Fasten off Colour C and then attach Colour D
- Row 37-48: Ch3, tr in first st and each st to end, then turn. (70 sts)
- Finally, fasten off and then sew in the ends.

How to Adapt
Alternatively, if you would like to make this blanket bigger, you just need to double (or triple or more) the length of the chain. You must then do the same with the rows. So for example, if you have doubled the amount of the chains, you would also double the amount of the rows.
